This is a pair of rare Samuel Alcock twin handled vases or urns in the rococo style of often elaborated short curves and scrolls.
Although not identical, this pair are of a deep yellow/ peach or even golden sand colour. Each has white gilded handles and multi-colour floral illustrations on white panels on the front.
The reverse has a gild rimmed white panel in the shape of a leaf. Alcock's pottery was rarely marked other than production numbers, and therefore easily confused with other potteries. There are production numbers on each base of these items: 4/605.
These are delightful pieces from a pottery that only operated in Alcock's name for 31 years. Samuel Alcock took over Hill Top Pottery in 1828.
He also acquired other potteries in the Burslem (Stoke on Trent) area and production for the UK and overseas markets over 30 years took the workforce to a peak of 700 including nearly 50 painters. Samuel died in 1848 and the business eventually closed in 1859.

Rare pair of rococo style mid 19thC vases by Samuel Alcock
Good general condition for pieces that are more than 150 years old. There is loss to the gilding at the top of each piece but the colours are all intact - there no rub marks through handling. But there small marks associated with age and wear on both pieces. These include a small scratch on one and production marks/blemishes on both. Please see the photographs.
