This is a portrait of a young woman, which probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. The subject is formally attired, wearing jewellery popular of the period.
The portrait is mounted in an oval frame, under convex glass, thought to be the original.
The gilt frame has a few small marks in keeping with its age and use. The frame is heavily decorated with garlands to the top, bottom and both sides.
There has been minor repair of the back of the painting. The medium is thought to be gouache.
It is a striking portrait in a very decorative frame.
