This a small 8-pp pamphlet published by the Friends of the Old Hall, Gainsborough. It was written by Mrs D A Musson and C Christian and published in June 1974.

Gainsborough Old Hall, is located in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, one of England's best-preserved medieval manor houses.

Built around 1460 by Sir Thomas Burgh, the hall showcases impressive features such as a magnificent Great Hall with an ornate wooden ceiling and an imposing medieval kitchen equipped with an enormous fireplace.

Over its history, the hall has hosted notable figures, including King Richard III in 1483 and King Henry VIII in 1541.

Recently, an "astonishing" number of "witches' marks" were discovered etched into its walls. These marks, historically believed to protect against evil, include rare curse inscriptions and various symbols intended to ward off malevolent spirits.

It includes an original general information insert sheet for visitors.
