This is a chromolithograph print - Wellington's First Encounter With The French (George William Joy 1844-1925).
A classroom scene with Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington) as a boy, receiving instruction from Pignerol, his tutor at the Military College of Angers, with school boys in the background.
After his education Arthur was commissioned as an ensign in the British Army in 1787.
It is mounted under glass and within a good quality, heavy frame. The image is clear, with strong colours, and extremely detailed.
